Hello… Detox?
Maybe I should have titled this intro, Hello Canyon Ranch or Hello Hippocrates Health Institute? This might seem weird for a girl who obviously loves to cook (and eat!) but I love doing detoxes and cleanses. I find them to be a fun way to break bad eating habits. You know, like eating kettle corn or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for lunch after a coffee-only breakfast. Not that I would ever do anything like that… I’m always amazed what a couple weeks of clean eating can do to reverse some of the abuse we throw at our bodies. The human body is a pretty cool thing.
Rather than just take a vacation from the blog, I thought posting some detox-friendly recipes might be helpful to some of you out there in cyberspace, whether you’re doing a cleanse yourself or just looking for some healthy recipes. I won’t be cooking from one specific country, but I’ll definitely still be looking abroad for flavor inspiration. There will be drinks, salads, soups, main dishes and dessert. No Master Cleanse here- I still like to eat well.
I’ll be posting a lot of new recipes in the coming weeks, but I took a quick stroll through my archives and here are a couple healthy recipes that could potentially fit into your detox plan:
* Bissara- Moroccan Fava Bean Dip
* Carrot Curry
* Carrot, Ginger and Lime Juice (without the sugar, or substitute stevia)
* Coconut Chutney
* Coconut Rotti- Sri Lankan Coconut Rice Bread
* Fragrant Sri Lankan Rice
* Jamaican Rice and Peas
* Jicama Salad with Cilantro and Lime
* Mejadra- Israeli Rice with Lentils
* Red Date and Walnut Sticky Rice
* Tomato and Watermelon Salad
And don’t worry, in a couple weeks I’ll be back to my normal posting in a new country.
Note: For all of those looking for more detox-friendly recipes, check the updated list of Detox recipes from my Recipe Index. Happy Cleansing!
