Scenes from January
January sure flew by quickly, although it seems like I packed a whole lot into those 31 days.
I squeezed in a trip to New York (sub $400 tickets from HNL!), where, despite the cold, I enjoyed lots of touristy stuff like checking out the High Line, drinking hot cider from the Union Square Greenmarket, and taking the tram over to Roosevelt Island (best part about the tram? Getting a peek at all those amazing roof decks and gardens).
I decided to shake off my jet lag by hiking up Koko Head; after the 1000+ stairs you get a pretty great view of Hanauma Bay and the south shore from the top.
I also finally made it to Shangri La, Doris Duke’s oceanfront Black Point estate. Oh to be a billionaire heiress.

Welcome! I'm Cate and Girl Cooks World is my recipe journal from my culinary trip around the world.

Interesting to compare the skys in New York with those in Hawaii. So obvious that it ‘s winter (and cold) in NY and winter? and warm in Hawaii. Chase looks very handsome!!

ooh, la, la, Shangri La! I had never heard of it, and now I really want to go there. I LOVE islamic art. (I lived in southern Spain for a while, and really miss seeing that kind of tile every day.) As always, thanks for sharing your food and travels! How is your kitchen plan coming along?

It’s definitely a great way to spend a couple hours if you ever find yourself out here… especially if you like Islamic art.
As for the kitchen… I’m sort of a standstill but hoping to make progress soon!
